President's column

President Alan EvansAt this year’s Annual General Meeting of NRMA Members I outlined the plans this Board has for the company over the next three years.

The recent announcement of the company’s financial results – a $50.5 million operating surplus – means the NRMA is in its strongest financial position since demutualisation.

This leaves the company in a great position for the future. It means that the Board and management can look for new benefits and services to provide our Members while maintaining the highest standards in roadside assistance, which will always be our core service.

These are just some of the goals set out by the Board and management team in our strategy over the next three years, which was made available to our Members at the AGM.

Our Members told us they want new benefits and services in travel and holidays and we are looking to build on the family of businesses we have grown so far like Travelodge, our Holiday Parks, Thrifty and Adventure World.

Like these businesses, these new investments will provide Members with a range of valuable discounts and offers. They will mean newer and more exciting holiday deals and even discounts on car hire in New Zealand.

We are also looking to develop a range of holiday tours specifically designed for our Members who are motoring enthusiasts. These packages will be affordable for Members and new to the travel industry.

The Board recognises that these special benefits can only be provided to our Members if we can maintain a strong balance sheet.

That’s why the three-year strategy for the company focuses on achieving this goal so that the company’s surplus can be invested back into our Members.

NRMA Motoring & Services has never looked so strong. The strategies we have implemented have served the company well but all this could be lost if we become complacent.

The Board is determined to build on this success. It’s a three-year job and we are committed for the long haul.
