Never too young

Never too youngThe Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) states road crashes cause more than 500 deaths and 27,000 injuries each year on NSW’s roads. None of us want our children to be a statistic, and ‘stay safe on the roads’ is a message young adults can’t afford to forget. Often there’s no better way to learn than in an interactive environment, and with NRMA’s travelling exhibition ‘RoadZone’ that’s exactly what children, young people and adults can do. The official launch of ‘RoadZone’ is in May at Questacon, National Science and Technology Centre, Canberra, where nine- to 14-year-olds can learn about road safety in a fun setting.

Visitors to the exhibition can explore the streets of Hazard Point and test their talent for spotting risks. Younger people may want to design their own bike helmet, or see how they go at crossing a busy road safely. And everyone will want to get behind the wheel of a ‘car’ to learn about the impact of speed, such as the distance it takes to stop at different speeds. You can also test your ability to keep at a safe following distance.

Entry to Questacon is: adults $16, children (4–16) $8 and family (2A+3C) $42. Extra children are $4 each and concessions are available for adults and students ($9.50). Visit www.mynrma.com.au/safety.asp for more information or call 6270 2800.
For a sneaky peak of NRMA’s hands-on road safety exhibition visit the new interactive pavilion, ‘The Zone’, at the Royal Easter Show (March 18–31).
