CEO Tony Stuart Roadside assistance is NRMA’s core service. It’s why you join.

NRMA believes that as many as 20,000 motorists and fleet owners were left without roadside help after MTA Roadservice Australia went into liquidation.

So we asked our call centre staff and patrols to ensure that any calls for help from these motorists were answered until the end of October – we didn’t want families stranded on their holidays. NRMA also offered to honour existing MTA Roadservice Australia contracts if they joined NRMA.

That’s why providing a trusted, reliable road service is important. However, to secure the company’s financial future we are investing in other business opportunities to complement our revenue from membership – like travel, accommodation and car rentals. Our strategy is working. This revenue has increased by 9% on the year before. That’s money that can be reinvested into our patrols.

This highlights that NRMA is heading in the right direction and shows just what can be achieved when the board, management and staff are focused on serving you.

Two recent investments that will deliver even stronger financial returns for NRMA and benefits to you are Thrifty and Treasure Island. NRMA’s investment of its three-quarter shareholding of Thrifty Australia is expected to provide the company with a strong return in only its first year under our ownership.

Last year, Thrifty made a $1 million profit and we expect this to increase substantially this year. Also, the purchase of the Treasure Island Resort gives you more holiday options at a time when many family resorts are being sold for their attractive coastal land.
Treasure Island will be available to you and your family for years to come. We intend on being in this business long-term and are now looking for other opportunities. I am also pleased to announce that you will receive a 10% discount at the resort of up to $30. We will also be providing other benefits for attractions in the resort and at other Gold Coast attractions in coming editions of Open Road.

Finally, as we head into the Christmas holidays the number of people killed on our roads is almost identical to the same number this time last year.

Traditionally, the Christmas holiday is the worst time of year so please drive carefully and keep your family safe this festive season.
