Group CEO Tony StuartBlessed by 90 years of loyal support

In January, NRMA celebrated our 90th anniversary. To commemorate this occasion we held a fundraising dinner at Sydney Town Hall. All proceeds went to NRMA CareFlight and I am happy to report that $50,000 was raised to support CareFlight’s life-saving work.

The next morning, NRMA MotorFest celebrated its 25th year on Australia Day. Each year, MotorFest grows larger and more families get to enjoy a great exhibition of classic motoring.

Throughout our 90-year history, NRMA has been blessed by the loyal support of millions of people whose Membership has given them a unique sense of collective ownership. At our Annual General Meeting in November, some Members asked for a half-yearly update to track how our mutual is performing financially and operationally. Our first half-yearly report is available, and I am very pleased to report that just six months after reporting losses during the economic downturn, the NRMA Group has recovered with a half-yearly unaudited profit, before tax, of $27 million.

This result is particularly pleasing after what was a very tough period for most Australian companies. I acknowledge that global economic conditions are still uncertain and could change again in the future but the forecast for NRMA in the remainder of this year appears to be one of continued financial improvement.
The second-half of 2009 was exciting for our operations team. We expanded our youth membership, Free2Go, allowing people aged 16 to 20 to join the free program. NRMA also released its first iPhone application, enabling Members to access roadside assistance and other Member benefits from iPhones.

Perhaps most importantly, we continued to provide excellent service to our Members, who can be assured that the high levels of service they currently enjoy will be sustained for years to come.
